The Flower Festival is an excellent opportunity to spend time with loved ones, including other family members. This year, Palm Sunday will coincide with April 2 for the Catholic Easter and April 9 for the Orthodox, this being also one of the most important holidays before Easter. From an Orthodox point of view, the celebration has the role of commemorating the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and today it brings together many of the traditions and customs that are still preserved not only in the village, but especially in the city. What is the history of the Floriilor celebration?

The name Florii of this holiday comes from antiquity, when the Roman goddess of flowers, named Flora, was celebrated on the same day. This is how, nowadays, the celebration took the name and gave rise to the appearance of an increased number of customs and traditions. At the same time, the Flowers represent a Christian holiday that commemorates the entry of the Savior Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

What are the most famous traditions of Florii?

Many of the customs that existed in the past are current with regard to the Feast of Flowers. Among the most important and common such traditions are:

  • Finding by the girls if they are going to get married during the current year – this tradition is a current one, and it involves the use of various procedures to find out if they will be married by the end of the year;< /p>

  • Positioning the martișor worn at the beginning of March on the branches of the flowering tree – it can also be placed on a rose bush;

  • Positioning a clean shirt and a mirror under a grafted hair by unmarried girls – this tradition is common in Banat and Transylvania. As soon as the sun rises, the two objects are to be used in charms to increase the chances of luck in health and love;

  • Boiling basil in water at midnight – the next morning, the water is used by girls to wash their heads, so that their hair grows beautiful and shiny. The remaining water is used at the root of a hair so that the blooming hair can catch the eyes of the boys.

What are the most famous superstitions of Flowers?

In addition to the traditions often observed in various regions of the country, there are also numerous superstitions that it is good to avoid on Palm Sunday. Among them are:

  • Washing the head on the Day of Flowers is prohibited – according to the writings, washing the head on the Day of Flowers is possible only with enchanted and holy water. Otherwise, the people concerned will turn white during the year;

  • Planting trees a week before Flowers is prohibited – similarly, it is advisable not to plant trees during this period, given the fact that the trees will not bear fruit, only flowers;< /p>

  • The hot summer is determined by the singing of the frogs - if the frogs do not sing until the Flowers, the warm season will not be a beautiful one throughout the year.
