For most believers, Easter is also the most important Christian holiday. This year, Orthodox Easter falls on April 16, while Catholic Easter is celebrated on April 9. This holiday is good for arranging the house, preparing traditional dishes and, above all, to spend time with ourselves and better understand how we can have that inner peace. Even though the celebration of Easter abounds in different customs, habits and traditions depending on the specific regions, this event is one that has a slightly different significance. Stay with us and discover which traditions are good to know, even before the Easter holiday!
Dying eggs in red color (and not only)
By far the most common tradition during the Easter holidays is the painting of eggs. In turn, they are indispensable on the Easter table and, most of the time, they are red in color. Over time, their color has been changed and quite varied, which is why today eggs are painted in different colors, depending on preferences.
From a religious point of view, the custom of Easter comes from the moment when the Savior Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross on Good Friday. When the Virgin Mary came to see Him crucified, she had with her a basket of eggs that became red from His blood. This is why, according to popular tradition, red eggs are a symbol of good luck.
Moreover, every Easter morning, it is advisable to wash our face with the water in which the red eggs have been placed, together with a few silver coins. An interesting custom says that if a person finds an egg with two yolks on Easter morning, they will soon get married.
The Easter Egg Clash
After the eggs have been boiled and dyed in different ways according to preference, they are used to observe one of the oldest Easter traditions. Thus, when we are together with our loved ones at the table, the first scrambled egg must be shared with all family members. Furthermore, it is important to state that the first egg to be struck and broken should start with the head of the family. As soon as he cleans the whole egg, he will share it and eat it with the rest of the family at the same time.
Purchasing new clothes
Clothes shopping is in full swing just before the Easter holiday, and this is closely related to the well-known tradition especially in our country. This is why, according to custom, the first day of Easter must be greeted with a new set of clothes, this gesture representing the renewal of the body and soul of each of us.
All these traditions and customs have the role of helping us to organize ourselves much better and to prepare not only our body, but especially our soul, for the Easter celebration!
